So, I was sitting here skimming some various news articles just to see what kind of things were out there making headlines these days.
Last week I found the headline about the amazing black bear with a great sense of direction.
This week….. I found out that there was an amputee who was a criminal mastermind who stole…one shoe.
See article below.
One-legged suspect caught with one stolen shoe
BRUSSELS (AP) — Police said a one-legged suspect was caught after only one shoe went missing in a store in Belgium. An amputee was an immediate suspect when a store attendant found one shoe missing from a shop in the western Belgian town of Maldegem. Police spokesman Rik Decraemer said Monday authorities were alerted and quickly found the man who fit the description by shopkeepers. The shoe was also recovered.
The suspect, a Russian asylum seeker, faces possible charges and was handed over to judicial authorities.
Compliments of USA Today.
This got me to thinking about something. I realized that throughout my entire driving career…… I have noticed… A SLEW OF SHOES …. In various places FOR YEARS!
Driving on a local road- there it is, a single shoe just laying there off on the side of the road.
On the highway….there it is…a single shoe laying in the middle of the road.
Local roads, highways, bypasses, service roads…sometimes neighborhoods.
I have seen shoes tied together and tossed up landing over power lines…
The shoes are never the same. I have seen tennis shoes, flip flops, high heels, boots, slippers and even aqua shoes.
It stumps me. I didn’t realize that there are so many people transporting shoes all over our great nation, but apparently they are.
Even though I have been witness to the plethora of shoes all over our great land, I have never been witness to….the actually toss. I have never been driving down any of these aforementioned lanes of transport and seen any random shoe just fly out of a window, a box or from off the back of a truck….
It must happen at night. Between the hours of 10p.m. and 4:30 a.m.- it seems to be really dark during that time. (I don’t know…it’s a stretch, I know but I think a very valid one.)
Why….why do we have such a horrendous problem with orphaned shoes.
It really bothers me.
Surely…..there must be something we can do to solve the problem of Orphanic Shoes within the United States.
(Yes, I did just make that word up…Orphanic…. )
I am concerned. Won’t you please join me in an effort to stop this abuse of shoes?
For only $10.95 a month…the cost of a pack of gum every three days for a month you can support these Orphanic Shoes and help them find their mates….once and for all..
Am I the only ones who have seen this national tragedy???
Tune in tomorrow to see how we can stop evil dryers from eating solitaire socks….
Until next time,
Aj

I can see it now. Orphanic Shoes of the United States joins forces with Shoes for Orphaned Souls (http://www.shoesfororphansouls.org/). In order to donate, just throw your shoes out the window and a helpful staffer from OSUS will pick them up and make sure they find their way to the feet of another.
What’s the deal with shoes around powerlines? I’ve always wondered why people do this?
Kind of like how if you go into the shoe section of any department store (personally I love Nordstrom but to each her own) and there’s a sea of orphaned shoes. They display just one shoe. Maybe it’s a footprint kind of thing-you know-maybe whoever lost the shoe is really walking around with one shoe and God is wearing the other one.
I think I wrote that just because I want new boots from Nordstrom and I was really trying to come up with something brilliant to say in order to validate my purchase.
Oh and I always heard the shoes over the power lines meant someone had been murdered. I learned that when I rode through Boyle Heights in LA..lots of shoes over the power lines there…
